Nostalgia at the Playstation Rental: From Ice Marimas, Winning Eleven to being kicked by your mom!

For those of you who grew up in the 1990s, you must be familiar with the name “Playstation Rental”. This place is a haven for school children who want to unwind after a long day of school. Imagine, with only Rp 2,000 – 2,500 per hour, we can enjoy the thrill of playing Playstation 1 or Playstation 2 with friends. Favorite game? Winning Eleven, of course! Who hasn’t screamed at the top of their lungs after scoring a goal against a friend? An hour of play feels so short. Sometimes, we lose track of time and keep adding billing hours. In fact, thirst often sets in during the heat of the day. Well, this is where ice in plastic comes into action with a straw to the rescue. Our favorite drink at that time was iced Marimas, which only cost Rp 500. Marimas have been around since the 1990s! This orange-flavored powder drink is legendary and always manages to refresh our parched throats after screaming at the PS screen. If I used to buy Marimas, I liked the orange flavor and then my friend didn’t tell me to buy another red flavor so what’s the taste, grapes, so that we can incip each other hehehe. There were many funny and “magical” happenings at the Playstation rental. For example, when a PS stick gets stuck, we have a special trick to solve it: curling the stick’s cable! Believe it or not, this often works to get the sticks working again. If that doesn’t work, we can beg the rental guy to open a new stick, of course, with our best scowl on our face. Playstation time is over, and we usually go home not because we’ve run out of money, but because our mom comes to pick us up in her typical way: by yanking our ears! And of course, Marimas ice is always a constant companion in our play sessions.
